Before a Marketing Campaign: Get the Brief and Follow-Up Ready
Connect your offer, audience, enquiry handling and reporting before asking a team to run a campaign.
A campaign brief needs to explain what happens after someone responds. Before discussing creative or channels, describe the offer, the intended customer and the action you want them to take. Then trace how your business will handle that action. Marketing and sales should agree on the same journey.
Make the offer specific. Write down what is available, who it is suitable for and which conditions matter. Check that the landing page and sales team explain it consistently. If a prospect needs a consultation before receiving a quote, say so rather than suggesting a price or outcome that cannot yet be confirmed.
Define a useful enquiry. Agree which information helps your team decide whether it can serve the prospect. Avoid treating every form submission as equally valuable. Document how enquiries are qualified and why some are rejected so the team can learn from patterns rather than argue about an isolated lead.
Assign the next action. Identify who receives an enquiry, how they know it has arrived and what happens when they are unavailable. Prepare a response that addresses the prospect’s request. An acknowledgement should accurately describe the next step; it should not imply that a call or booking is confirmed when it is not.
Keep a shared record. Record the captured source, the follow-up status and the eventual outcome in a consistent place. Decide how repeat enquiries are handled. If the information lives across disconnected spreadsheets and messages, resolve the ownership before asking reporting to explain the whole journey.
Agree the review questions. A useful review asks whether the right people responded, what they expected and where the process became difficult. Review customer feedback alongside the numbers. Changes to the offer, landing page or follow-up may be needed as well as changes to the campaign itself.
